Is a craft unit the same as a craft union?

A craft unit and a craft union are related concepts in labor relations but are not the same thing. A craft unit refers to a group of employees who share a specific skill or craft within a workplace or industry. For example, all electricians or plumbers in a particular company would constitute a craft unit.

On the other hand, a craft union is an organization that represents the interests of workers within a specific trade or craft. Craft unions typically encompass multiple craft units across various employers or industries.

While they are connected—since a craft union may represent multiple craft units—being a craft unit simply describes the grouping of workers based on their skills, whereas a craft union describes the organizational structure that advocates for those workers. Therefore, it is accurate to state that a craft unit and a craft union are not synonymous.
